C/2007 B2 Skiff
I had planned on targeting this Comet on Dome 2 on Jan 7 2008. Larry had imaged This comet on Jan 6 2008 and sent me the images. I first made a quick animation to see if i could find any thing fuzzy moving. The was a little movement but really enough to point and say that is the comet. So loaded the 2 images into MaximDL converted them to FITS, and then stacked them again to bring out more details. I used VPP to plate slove the coord then a very handy plugin for MaximDL called DSS blink. what it does is download the DSS image for the coords of the FITS file you have open and then it blinks them for you. And the comet sticks out like a neon sign.
here is the original images you can see what the difference is in being able to stack them does

Bravo on the stacking. I'd love to see more people get involved in tweaking these Slooh images.....and many are.
True, Slooh produces excellent "eye candy" as-is, but occasionally, these harder objects need some persuasion. Probably 1/3d of my planetary images are stacked, tweaked, & manipulated to some degree or they would never even show up...especially those pesky Abell objects, which I've grown to despise.
Until Slooh has the capability of advanced techniques, such as FITS, this type of experimenting is a great way to learn how to use the necessary tools in advance, rather than to just wait until the other formats are available......and the results will definitely surprise you quite often. _________________

Now Mag 14 should reach Mag 13.5 in a few weeks and start fading back out.

Occulting a 12.2 mag. star on March 8, 2008
Despite water vapor, the images seem to be deeper, after Paul's last visit. I don't remember being able to get 13th magnitude this well, especially a diffuse object, in the WF. Everything seems about a mag. better in DF, too.

I was curious about the galaxies in the background, so I identified them.
You always do great work on these comets - I love looking over your shoulder or catching up with your missions in the forum.

As I recall, I first got the coordinates of your image by taking the time and date from Minor Planet & Comet Ephemeris Service web page. Then I took those coordinates and looked up Simbad online to see what was in the neighborhood. _________________ Maynard Pittendreigh
