There are so many unique and beautiful clusters that I thought I'd attempt to get a cluster thread going to view member's cluster pics. I'll initiate it by posting a modest Vulpecula open cluster, NGC 6802.

Great idea, Louis!

Here's one I imaged Tuesday night, 2008June18, 0145UTC, Dome 2.

NGC 7243 in Lacerta, aka Caldwell 16, positioned just one degree W of Alpha Lacertae

hmmmmmm I always though it was blue/white

Terzan 5 ( Terzan 11 )

This globular was discovered by Terzan in 1968 when surveying the Milky Way central region (Terzan 1968). Accidentally, it was rediscovered by the same author, Terzan, in a second survey in 1971 without immediately noting its identity.

also discovery of at least 17 new pulsars in the rich globular cluster Terzan 5
with a few 21 millisecond peirod pulsars

very cool

The Coma Berenices Star Cluster, Melotte 111

"This large and conspicuous cluster was first cataloged by Ptolemy; it is scattered over an area of about 4.5 degrees diameter. Although conspicuous, it was neither included in Messier's nor in the NGC catalog, because its nature as a true, physical cluster was proven only in 1938 by R.J. Trumpler who identified 37 stars as true cluster members. Prior to this, P.J. Melotte had cataloged it in his 1915 catalog as No. 111."

I've always love Mel 111. Very Nice image, Louis.

This is a very sparse cluster in Hercules, DoDz9, with just 15-25 known members:

While we’re on the sparse cluster category, I give you Collinder 419, about a dozen members. This obscure cluster in Cygnus is 1° W of NGC 6910.

"NGC 6397 is one of the two globular clusters nearest to us. It is one of at least 20 globulars of our Milky Way Galaxy which have undergone a core collapse, i.e. its core has contracted to a very dense stellar agglomeration; this is the nearest such globular."

I found this while looking for an object to put in solo. Found out it turned out rather nicely!

"One of the oldest known open star cluster in our Galaxy, the age of NGC 188 was calculated to be over 5 billion years; Alan Sandage's first estimate was even an age as high as 24 billion years, while Burnham claims 10-12 billion. It consists of about 120 stars, the hottest main sequence star of spectral type F2, the 10 brightest stars being yellow giants of spectral types G8 to K4 and luminosity class III, apparent magnitudes of about 12-14, corresponding to absolute magnitudes of 0 to +2." http://www.seds.org/messier/xtra/ngc/n0188.html

Not a cluster image, but an interesting article regarding many. http://space.newscientist.com/article/dn14283-lucky-hubble-find-raises-star-cluster-mystery.html
