Hello, I am new to the Slooh world And not very familiar with a lot of things. I have been able to watch Jupiter and moons the last few months with my Telescope.. I have noticed a cloud like (gas) formation I believe it's above to the left in the telescope,Can't even say for sure cause it's never clear anymore. Winters blow in Illinois so I guess below in normal view. And it also seems to change shape , Does anyone have a clue what I'm talking about and what it is. If so let me know Thanks. |

Hi Kevin, Welcome to slooh. I think what you are seeing is air turbulence from our atmosphere. Plus Jupiter has been low in our sky. So with air turbulence and Jupiter getting lower in our sky it will play optical tricks on you.
Right now Jupiter is heading into the sun in the west and will be in Superior Conjunction on February 28, 2010. I do a daily skyLog called Jovian Chronicles on Astronomy.fm.

This link is where you can find it . I've made my last post for it for now. I will most likely start it up after it starts to rise in the morning sky and it will most likely be in April.
Jupiter will be higher in the sky in the coming months. I hope this will help you.
