I think it's a CCD artefact of some sort. I had it on a mission a couple of days ago. It's still there on your 21:42 image - almost dead centre of the image. _________________ ___

Looking again at the M64 image I notice that there are several other very similar looking spots. Here is one magnified x2 and stretched for a close look:
Looks very much like a faint star out of focus with a collimation problem - but the "real" stars in the image are OK. I cannot think how this can happen - any theories? _________________ ___

Looks like water droplets on the CCD chip to me. They would act as a lens & cause difference in brightness of the inside vs. edges. We use to be able to see the temp of the chip & we could get a hint at if this might be happening, but that ability was taken from the MI long ago.
That's my guess though, perhaps brought about by the cooler being a little over-anxious to do it's job. _________________
