Nice one, Tony. Is this the new parabolic comet that you mentioned last night? We'll never see this one again?

yes this Comets orbital elements

C/2008 J1 (Boattini)
T 2008 June 29.358 TT MPC
q 1.80844 (2000.0) P Q
Peri. 59.658 +0.450011 +0.215746
Node 272.357 -0.744606 +0.626357
e 1.0 Incl. 60.147 +0.493003 +0.749086
From 58 observations 2008 May 2-4.

eccentricity equal to 1
e = 1.0 is a Parabolic orbit.

Comets with Parabolic and Hyperbolic orbits maybe have origins from outside of our solar system, these would make great comets to do spectrographically research on.

I've always wondered about comets with parabolic or hyperbolic trajectories (I guess you can't really call them orbits Razz).

And here is one ... fascinating - where did it come from ?
